Water Consumption After Gastric Sleeve

Water Consumption After Gastric Sleeve. Consuming adequate fluids, especially water, in the early stages after bariatric surgery is important for a patient to be safely discharged from the hospital. Sleeve gastrectomy is the most commonly used surgical method worldwide. Inadequate water intake after stomach surgery can lead to many problems. Additionally, sufficient water intake is essential for weight loss.
Men should consume at least 2 liters of water per day and women should consume at least 1.5 liters of water per day.
Based on our observations, some patients have greater difficulties with water consumption compared to other fluids after a sleeve gastrectomy.
Patients who struggle to drink water after stomach surgery report that they have replaced their drinking water with a larger quantity of juice, especially in the first 2 months. This can reduce weight loss and even lead to weight gain in the long run.
There is not enough scientific evidence to explain why some patients have difficulty consuming water compared to other fluids after stomach surgery.
